When Kennedy Met Krushchev- A History Lesson for OBAMA-ites
Whether Senator Obama wants to meet Iran unconditionally or he has backed off, he should understand his history much better. Yesterday he got Auschwitz wrong, but he has been getting the Kennedy-Krushchev meeting wrong for for a longer time. Kennedy NEVER SAID THAT HE WOULD MEET WITH KRUSHCHEV UNCONDITIONALLY. In his debates with Nixon, Kennedy expressed his agreement with Nixon that he “would not meet Mr. Khrushchev unless there were some agreements at the secondary level—foreign ministers or ambassadors—which would indicate that the meeting would have some hope of success, or a useful exchange of ideas.” In the third debate, Kennedy suggested that the strengthening of American conventional and nuclear forces should precede any summit with the Soviet Union.
The point is, along with almost everything Obama has said, the Senator shows a clear lack of understanding of the history behind US foreign policy. You cant make change without knowing WHAT you are changing.
